Again I found myself slumped over her like a wet towel, nauseous with euphoria and failure, sweat sliding down the tangled vines of our limbs while our chest exhaust air like bellows on a flame. I buried my head in her neck, ashamed to look her in the face, too ashamed for her to see my guilt and acknowledge my greed. She says nothing, runs her fingers through my hair as we gain control of our breathing and the blood pounding at our eardrums. I’ve been lying here too long, I’m sure she can’t wait to get rid of me. I’m sure she will laugh about me with her friends. I exit her with the grace of a corpse being rolled into a shallow grave, left staring vacantly into space. But before I could escape to the edge of the earth, she laid her head on my chest, I breathed in the scent of her hair and we fell asleep.
